Sustainable Drainage

Sustainable Drainage Systems replicate as closely as possible, the natural drainage from a site before development. New developments create large areas of finished surface which are relatively impermeable; these typically include roads, roofs and car parks. Developers have to incorporate an efficient way of controlling large concentrated volumes of runoff generated by a storm event.

Silt Guardian Solutions

The Silt Guardian is usually sited before an attenuation system to prevent silt/sand entering the system, particularly crate/box type and corrogated steel systems which are prone to silt blockage. In normal rainfall which accounts for more than 99% of all storms in the U.K. The Silt Guardians retention and filter system will retain and prevent the majority of silt passing through in suspension, even tiny particles of silt will become trapped in the Guardian's filter which is located on the outlet of the unit as shown.

It works very simply.Silt entering the Guardian drops into the top section and then through into large vertical sump, the storage levels have been designed to store quantities of silt that complies with BS en858 for design of separators. The flow of surface water then has to pass up into the filter housing and through the filter. The filter gives the storm water a final polish before it enters the attenuation/storage system.

To get the best from your Silt Guardian it is important that you check the silt levels in the system this can be achieved more efficiently by the use of a silt monitoring device which we can provide as a factory fitted extra. This system will check when silt level is such that it needs emptying. However even in the event that you have a monitor fitted we still recommend that you check the filter regularly as this will blind with high levels of silt in suspension. If necessary it can replaced cheaply or as an interim cleaning programme it can be removed simply and cleaned off with warm soapy water and a jet washer on a low to medium setting and then simply relocated.

Please note that the waste within these units is classed as special waste and must be removed by a licensed contractor. It is now illegal to tip the contents of a silt trap or separator without a license to do so.
